Biscuits is a popular breakfast and lunch restaurant that expanded to their Gilbert location back in January of this year. You have to give Biscuits credit for being direct. They want you to know what they’re famous for. And after our first visit to the restaurant, we’re happy to report back that they lived up to their namesake.
The first Biscuits opened in Ahwatukee back in 2010 and has maintained a steady customer base ever since. Biscuits owner Lloyd Melton did a fantastic job transforming the interior and exterior of the former Kyoto Bowl on Gilbert Rd. into a southern country home / barn theme.
Biscuits is a southern / soul food style breakfast and lunch restaurant open seven days a week. We recently stopped in on Saturday for breakfast after visiting the Gilbert Farmers Market and the restaurant was busy. There were two of us in our party and we were quickly seated and provided our own carafe of coffee. Score a point for Biscuits. We appreciate breakfast restaurants that supply you with a ready supply of coffee to refill your cup as you see fit. The bottomless coffee came out to about $2.50 per person.
Biscuits Serves Up a Quality Southern Style Breakfast
The Ahwatukee and Gilbert locations share identical menus. The menu items are pretty standard breakfast fare but with the promise of fresh ingredients and hearty portions. We both ordered the Biscuits Special with bacon (three pieces) for an extra $2.00. Biscuits serves up breakfast and lunch fare Saturday’s through Thursday’s, but on Friday’s they stay open until 8:00 pm and offer a southern style fish fry.
The Biscuits Special comes with one large biscuit with gravy, two eggs (any style), hash browns, grits or country potatoes and a choice of bacon, ham or sausage. The meal didn’t disappoint. The biscuits were fluffy and the gravy had a mildly spicy sausage taste. And they were hot.
Two meals came out to a combined total of just under $20 including tax. The portions were just right and didn’t leave either of us wanting for more. The service was friendly and attentive. We’ll be back and look forward to trying other items on the menu.
Biscuits is located at 1235 N. Gilbert Road (Gilbert & Brown). The Gilbert Biscuits location is open seven days a week:
Monday – Thursday 7 am – 2 pm
Friday 7 am – 8 pm (Friday fish fry)
Saturday – Sunday 7 am – 3 pm
